Hi, what is the difference between the late model M engine and the early model. I am restoring one that has a early model serial number 258xxx but the machine shop where i took the crank says it measures to be the late model crank. Are the pistons different to? What can i do to figure out what overhaul kit i need? Thanks for your help

The early Farmall M's crankshaft diameter were 2.7475-2.7485" up to SN 278049. The later M's
shaft measured 2.8075-2.8085" starting with SN 278050. The cylinder bore was the same 3-7/8".
The rod journals for SN 278049 were 2.4975-2.4985" and from SN 278050 and up they measured 2.5475-2.5485". Try weberstractorworks.com for your sleeve and piston kit. Hal
