I have a "51 Super C that runs great except for the oil pressure drops when it warms up. Someone said that I might be able to take the bottom off the pump and sand a little off of it. Has anyone else done this, and how do you go about doing it?

You might do what I do and put 20w50 oil in it. You'll get closer to the cold pressure with the 50 weight and start easier with the 20 weight.

As Justin has suggested on checking those bearing
clearance's, they determine your oil pressure too.
Another place that is sometimes overlooked are the worn cam bearings. Hal

C113 & 123 engines do not have cam bearings. The cam runs on the block..

That's really a problem if those cam bores are worn. Wolverine Blue Racer in MI can buildup those cams. Hal

The oil pump bottom plate is aluminum, and does have a tendency to warp. I would suggest checking the plate for warpage. If it is slightly warped, it can be resurfaced, but if the plate has warped alot, you will need to buy a new plate. Also, with the oil pan already removed, it would be a smart idea to check the oil clearance of your rod & main bearings. I also forgot to mention that you should check the pressure relief valve and spring in the oil pump also.

I am surprised that the plate on the oil pump is alumimium. The plate in my H is cast iron and i put it on a surface grinder to clean up the headspace. I worked on oil pumps quite a bit and a .001 increase in headspace can drop oil pressure quite a bit. Irv
