Where did factory Super A Temp Gauges mount? I can't locate a pic of one. All the ones on Ebay say they only have a 24 inch line? Where does this hook up? I'm asking about the engine temp gauge not the touch control gauge. Thanks this site has been a great help!!

Thanks for the comments. Good to know they typically run cold. I live in Louisiana so I'm sure I dont need to shutters to build heat. I will just have my radiator checked out and as long as its not clogged it will be fine. Thanks to all

Not all governor hous'ns have the extra bolt hole for the temp gauge bracket. I just ran across this on mine. i installed a 140 governor with the guts outa my old one and theirs no place for the temp gauge to mount. i had took it apart 5 years ago and had a hard time figger'n this out. Could not find a tractor that had a temp gauge checked 100,130, 140 and super A I knew it had to be with n 12" of the thermo house'n and findley tok a good at my gov.

The water temp gauge mounts on the right front of the motor. There is a bracket that attatches to the govenor. The sensor goes in the right side of the top water neck; I think thereis a 3/8" pipe plug there. Only the Distillate Super A had a temp gauge because they had radiator shutters that were adjusted to keep the enige the right temp. Most Super A's do not have the fitting in the water neck for the sender. You would need the bracket, water neck and gauge. The 100, 130, and 140 water neck should work and have the hole. Don't know if it would read much without a water pump and thermostat or radiator shutters though.

While I agree that the temp gauge was used on distillate engines, I have a couple of gas Super A tractors with temp gauge and shutters. Why they were put on? Don't know! Temp gauges don't work, got shutters working but afraid to use them with no temp gauge! Want a set of shutters?!!!!

Technically the temp gauge and shutters were an option available on gas tractors. My next door neighbor, my great uncle, bought a new 1949 Super A and it has the shutters and temp gauge and yet it is a straight gas model. My grandfathers' 1948 Super A distillate has the full setup, shutters, gauge, and distillate manifold.

Farmall letter series typically run cold, particularly in the north, shutters were an option, I suppose they could be installed on any letter series. Also if your hood doesn't have a hole in it for the small tank, perhaps the hood is not original -- what does your manifold look like -- the kero/distillate had a cover and an adjustable manifold heat control valve. Minus the cover, the manifold has a rectangular tube between the intake and also the exhaust tubes. The manifold could have also been replaced. I apologize if you already know all this.
