An upcoming auction has two #35 rakes listed. Does this model have the hydraulically driven basket? I have seen #15 rakes and they are ground driven. Does anyone have any experience with this model? Any input will be greatly appreciated

I have two of the ground driven model. I have found them to be good rakes. Also, I paid a lot less than a NH rollabar and the bearings were easy to change.

As QR said they were available with either ground drive or hydraulic drive. I have a #35 hydraulic drive rake. I haven't had the problems that QR had. I usually run it with my SW6TA with an M&W hyd pump on it. Sometimes I use my 600 with factory hydraulics on it. Neither of these tractors have a cooler or even a very big hyd resevior on them. They are both relatively wimpy hydraulic systems, but they work fine. My 35 has rubber mount teeth on it and I'm a little dissapointed in them. They break off too easily, even the new ones that I replaced them with. Yes , I know you aren't supposed to set it too close to the ground, but I have to set it so high that it misses a lot. Not all 35s had rubber mounts, though.

The 35 rake was available with either ground drive or hydraulic drive. I have had both. The hyd. was a real deal, the agent being stuck with it out of season. A Farmall 350 did not do a good job as it had no oil cooler; Hydro 656 or 86 no better. The 706 did a fine job except in my line of hay equioment the 706 was needed elsewhere. Surprisingly, my 454 did a good job. This rake went down the road as trade for a Kuhn double rotor 3 PH rake. This was a very goog rake whem the transmission and cam assemblies worked. We became EXPERT Kuhn mechanics in repairing it in the field. This rake took a one way to the consignment sale. It was replaced by a 258 and a 260 NH rakes and a V hitch that worked very well making large windrows required for good round bales. I purchased then at auction a 35 rake, ground driven. In all fairness the NH rake could be run 1 to 2 miles an hour faster. I bought an L hitch and another 35 rake, permitting lots of raking capacity in variuos combinations from heavy first cut to soybean straw(36 feet per windrow). yes, the 35 is a good unit, make sure you have lots of hyd flow and a good cooler for the HY-TRAN. I own a ground driven IHC 35 that you can have. The 35 just never was smooth when it was operating. Kinda jerked it's way across the field. Rebuilt the gear box - didn't last two years nor 30 acres! I parked the rake and bought a very old NH, fixed and painted it up and havn't had a problem. My nickel Dick Davis
