Hi guys does anyone know what tax a person will have to pay in NY for farm or equipment needs. Where I live the tax rate is 8.25% . And I dont have a farm excempt status. Now when I buy parts from my local IH dealer he only charges me like 4% state tax. And when I buy parts from A&I in NY they only charge like 4% But I wanted something yesterday for the tractor and the auto parts dealer I went to said he has never heard of such a thing and I will have to pay 8.25%. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? JON

Jon There is a form that you should be able to get from you`r equipment dealer that will exempt you from paying said sales tax. That is if you are a farmer. I have a form here that I will make a copy of and send to you. Boyd

Mag,

I've been getting kind of an education on this too.

If NY is anything like NE, they are gonna get you one way or the other. The dealer will issue you a tax-exempt form on equipment purchases. But, on the other hand, this same equipment must then be registered at the courthouse on a "depreciation list" so that they can nail you on it as 'personal property tax’.

Parts here are sold with the full-blown sales taxes just as with anything else.

I hate taxes!

Allan

OK Allan this won't make you love paying taxes but...
Your taxes provide the Department of Defense with the assett to develop and implement the Internet. (NO it was not the Gore fellow from Tennessee.) And most of us know that the internet is fairly important in your daily life! So I hope this somehow explains how your tax paying makes life better in these United States. I personnaly am waiting for my HUMVEE. My nickel Dick Davis
