Was an International truck engine. I've seen occasional references to it. Some I think in the IH history site at Madison WI.

Here's a link on this site.

I get the silver diamond and the black diamond truck engines mixed up. One or the other is basically the same as the one used in the 460/560 tractor series. As to putting it in a 460/560, someone else will have to tell you if you can mount it in the tractor and whether or not the "bell housing" will bolt up to the TA housing. The tractor engine has a governor, I doubt if the truck engine even has a place for one. The tractor engine has sleeves--truck engine??. The camshaft is probably different. But, the block is the same, far as I know. The engine in the trucks was called a C220, in 460 tractors a C221, the 560 was a 263? The 3 9/16 bore in the 460 engine rounds to 221 cu inches, not 220, don't know why it was called a 220.

The Silver diamond (1949) was 220, or 221 to be accurate, as you said, but it had 220 stamped in the bottom of the oil pan. The Black Diamond was a 241, and came out later, 56 or 57 I think. It was essentially just a bored out Silver diamond with a few other minor differences. I'm not sure but maybe the crank is different, that might explain the difference in displacement.

Mornin',

When I was a boy the neighbor across the road had one of those Dimond Rio trucks that he let us use during potato harvest.

I still believe to this day that it was the grandest truck I've ever laid eyes on.

Allan

Hi Allan, The government used a lot of Diamond
Reo engines in their trucks until they went with
a multi-fuel engine made by Continental Motors.
It must have been politics since Continental made the tank engines too, even when they went to all diesel engines. The multi-fuel trucks were outlawed in Germany do to so much exhaust smoke.
Then they purchased the MAN diesel trucks that hardly smoked. We ran a lot of those Reo engines on the dynamometer stand for endurance. Never had a problem with them. Hal
