Hi Everyone!

I have a Farmall C that has an aftermarket 3-point hitch on it. I was just curious about other people's experiences (good, neutral, or bad) with these aftermarket hitches using a moldboard plow.

Thanks!
RandyN

I have a Ford 3 pt, 2 bottom plow I use it for food plots up to three acres. Little overkill using a 966 for motive power. There is a lever on the plow that will cahnge toe angle of the shares from fairly straight to about 60 degrees. Not sure why it was made this way. Was it so you could adjust down to narrow furrows if you were running out of power? I used my 3010 UGH Green)once and when it was set deep, and full angle , plowing grass sod that hadn't been worked in over 60 years , and clay type soil, it was working pretty good.

Randy: I don't like 3 point plows but will try to be a bit positive. First your tractor wheel tread must be right for a 2 bottom mounted plow, about 52" to 56" centers rear to rear tire. Your plow depth will be controled by length of your top link.

The kicker comes when the C needs a bit more traction, you don't have draft control so you must feather the hydraulic lift to put a bit more weight on rear of tractor. You will find this quite hard to achive exact lift on plow giving traction without lifting plow out of soil. If your plowing a garden or up to 5 acres it is doable. 20 acres and you'll probably utter a few choice 4 letter words. At 50 acres you will not be fit to talk with. I will leave the decission to you.

Ray's suggestion on gauge wheel on plow is good as it will help top link setting for depth do its job.

Hi Hugh,

You know, I prefer pull-type plows myself. That's what I used mostly growing up, although I did use the three-points as well.

I'm just wanting to plow up a garden spot. I guess I should go borrow one and see how well it works (or doesn't work).

Thanks for all the info!

you are not going to have any draft control. I for one would not want to mess with it.

Howdy Cowman,

That's something I was wondering about. Of course, with the C the hitch is tied into the Touch-Control. Would it be any different than running a plow hitched otherwise? (except pull-type, of course) With the 3-point arrangement, will the plow just want to keep pulling down until it essentially becomes an anchor?

I've used the setup for blading, brush-hog and carryall and everything works great...very nice control of the blade.

Touch control itself does not have draft control, I'm not sure the 1st fast hitch tractors had it either.

I guess I don't know. never ran a Super C. Does the touch-control have draft sensing built in? Nahh, it won't plow to China, but as you go over any little hump or ditch the plow will come out of the ground or be too deep.

Same problem I had plowing with a 3pt conversion on a 2pt on a Farmall 200. finally built a gauge wheel onto plow to control depth, and let it run in th "float" position. Need to reposition guage wheel some, but it worked.
