Tony,
Gene B told me one way he fixes his B throttle controls is to weld a fender washer inside the bell of the throttle, then weld another one to the handle, then put a fibre washer in between the two washers, then you can tighten the spring and nut to get it as tight as you need it to hodl it in place. I thought it souned like an excellant idea to be able to keep a stock appearing throttle. Shold also work on a H, I would think.

I've had some luck with putting an extra washer under the bottom to increase the tension on the spring. This is assuming that the tooth and plate are in good condition. I've always thought the supers that had the saw tooth type plate were worse than the earlier notch type.

i have one m that has had the throttle plate ground out about 5/16" deep the whole width of the lever in the wide open position. ih came with the square tooth throttle after production was over on the h and m models. the m+w type fiction disc throttle is my favorite.

I had the same problem with the sawtooth throttle on my '47 H. I solved the problem by replacing it with an aftermarket friction type. IHC knew they had a weak design because they changed it sometime before '51. My '51 H has a square tooth notch plate with a replaceable hardened "tooth" on the lever. It was only marginally better as I had to add a washer under the spring to give it a little more holding power. It still won't stay wide open.

The H still had the sawtooth in '53.

Yep, Allen. My '44 "H" has the sawtooth deal.

Didn't the newer series have them also. If I remember correctly a 300 I ran years ago had that set up.

Hi JD,

Boy, don't know on that one; we switched to the diesels after '53 and the 400D had the square-cut vertical throttle.

Maybe the gas ones did, sure don't know.

There are two ways to accomplish this. One-- cut a couple more notches in the plate, or two-- adjust the linkage to the governor so you get full throttle with the existing notches.

That has been the problem ever since the started getting old the teeth on the round disc get a littel wore and the flat on the lever get wore and the spring get week and the first bump or shake of the steering support and it goes to ideal same thing on the 400-450's . My buddys 450 D use to do that while he and i were plowen and he would kill it before he could get the clutch down it cost him a head because he ran out of gas and could not get it restarted and by the time i saw him stopped and got to him from where i was plowen it was to late.
