I am putting a wide front I bought last summer on my M now it has a piece that goes towards the back it has 4 bolt holes in it If I figured this out right it is to be bolted to the frame rails but I probably have to drill holes in the rails dont I ? It is a heavy duty swaritz style. I have a lighter duty on my H so I know where the front bolts to.. Any one have any tricks on drilling the holes it looks like all 3/4 bolts to me so 13/16 holes should be good or If I have to I will get the hot saw out.. Any help would be great... thanks in advance Jim

Jim,

I used a 1/2" drill and a floor jack. :>)

Please don"t use the hot wrench on a Farmall. I think it is against some law somewhere. :>)

Allan

I had to drill holes for mine but I think I just used 1/2 inch. It don't take too much to keep it from flopping.

Ya Howard, I think I used 1/2 inch bolts on mine. I just couldn't bring myself to drill a hole more than half the width of that flat flange. Allan you are right. There is a law against using the blue wrench on a Farmall frame. It is on page 78, about halfway down on the left side of the page, paragraph 3, article 2-C,of the 1949 edition of the Farmer's Almanac. Verbatum it states: A blue wrench, sometimes called a cutting torch, shall not be used on any tractor wearing the color "red". These tractors are too valuable for ongoing use in everyday operation of the family farm to be subjected to such treatment. If, in the course of farming events, the operator of said farm is inclined to use a blue wrench, let him get started on a green tractor, as that is where most of them will end up anyway.(Sorry Indy). Anyway, hope this clears up any misconceptions. Later, Harley

I only ever owned one green tractor and that one we towed in parades with a farmall.. Would a brass reamer be allright to use?

Absolutely, brass reamers are the accepted tool of choice when modifying such things as frame rails on farmalls, steering yokes on Essix-Tri-Directionals, and Montgomery Ward Roto-Tillers. :-) Harley
