Ouch! Antique Parts $

Just got my tractormeter (400D) repaired by Bates, and they did a great job for $160 (which is also an ouch). BUT, when I went to investigate the distributor gear and housing that drives the cable, and found both worn out, IH parts said $141 for the housing and $47 for the little gear. The housing is made of something like pot metal and the gear is plastic, both about the size of a large thumb.

Funny thing is, the last person that tried to repair the housing used JB Weld to fill in a worn out place, and NOW I KNOW WHY!

At least the parts are available, I just can"t justify spending that much (at least during this period of shock).

Anyone know where I can get them cheaper?

I've got a new plastic gear but there is no part number on it. I guess I could mail it to you and if it worked you pay me something for it. I can get you a picture and measurements if you email me.

Is there no end to what these outfits won't ask for parts, it just about enough to take the fun out of our hobby! I am in the middle of a f20 restoration for a friend, and I am flabergasted in how much prices have incresed on basic material like sandpaper cleaning supplies etc. The powers in being tell us that inflation is in check to that I must say bullshirt!!!!! if it wasn't for us helping each other their would be no way that I could do the restorations I am doing now, sometimes we forget to thank each other and this is a big mistake, as we all need to know that we are appreciated.
