I have a McCormick Deering Super WD-9. It has been sitting for about 15 years. The engine is free. It leaked oil out the rear main when last used. It has a hand clutch and a cab. The tires are not good. Does this tractor have any value as is, and what would it be worth if it were restored? Thanks for the help.

Thanks to all for your replies. My first thought is to fix it for myself. I am pretty sure it will still run, but not having restored anything before, I did not know what kind of other problems I might run into, or if it was worth the time. I think I have discovered that decals and some after-market parts are available. I was hoping the rear main problem would be a simple fix, but 55 50 thanks for that info.

I live is SE Wyoming and bought this tractor in 1973. The person I got it from had put rice tires on it, so no liquid in tires. I eventually bought the homestead of the same person and have found what I think are another set of fenders for it as well as fenders, lights etc for some Massey 55's. This man had built two 4x4's in the late 50's using Massey rear ends, so there are a lot of those parts still here. I was in Jr Hi at the time and can remember them running with GM diesels.

Thanks again for your help and encouragement. If I get this off the ground, I will hopefully get to know some of you better.

DWB,
If you are serious about selling I am looking for a 1956 model and would give you a fair price if its what I need.
Thanks
Corey

"Leaked oil out rear main". Common problem with those big McCormick diesels. They beat the rear main bearing enough so that it chews away part of the oil seal, then it starts leaking. Then it's a major repair job!

Where are you located?? In this part of the country you can buy runners with usable tires(they hold air anyway) for $500 on up(I paid $300 for a 650D two years ago in similar condition, but doubt I could find another locally for that price). From your description, around here, your tractor would probably be worth two-three hundred dollars as-is if someone came to pick it up.

Restored, who knows, but I'd say around two-three thousand tops if it was top-notch....but it'd most likely cost you more than that to get it there. Tires alone would eat up a big chunk of that....and if there's been fluid in the tires like most of these big tractors had, the rims are probably shot too....and since it has a cab the fenders are probably gonna need some extra attention...etc. etc.

Don't let me discourage you though- if you want to fix it up for yourself, it sounds like a great start for a project. Those big ol' tractors are really neat in my opinion. Just don't make the mistake of thinking you're gonna make a huge profit on the deal.

No value, I think you should email me and I will come and take it off your hands :). I'm sure you know better tho. As far as value how do you price another persons tractor. Picture tells a lot. Since engine is free value could be between 500.00-2000.00. Lot depends on area of demand and actual appearence of the tractor. To me it would be worth keeping and fixing up. Hope this gives you some idea.
