Hmm,

Now I gots parts left over. But at least now, it bolts up right and looks like an H. :>)

On another note, went in and checked on the old 966 today. Dunno, maybe I shouldn"t have prepaid the work; not a thing done in the past two weeks. Oh well, no biggie, I guess. :>)

Hi Guys, I will weigh in on this one. Our old M that has been our family since 1950 (its a 50 model). Has this same seat that Allan just put on his ol girl. Hope this helps. OBTW... Allan I think you need to check the paint code on the shock. LOL
Later,
John A.

Say, I like that toolbox! maybe you can put your old seat on ebay and sell it! Tell me Allan, what tractor is that old seat "correct" for. I have one on my M. Thought it had always been there. I put a new shock on it several years ago and it sure suits me fine.

Believe the seat with rear shock is Monroe aftermarket seat think the front shock seat is only IH hydraulic seat for H and M. They are listed as special in parts book do not know when they were first available. Have been wrong before though.

Hi Cowman,

Sure not well-schooled on the IHs, but I think all the Ms had either the shock in the back or the tip-over-back seat.

"Bout "50 or "51 Hs started putting the shock in the front and they have a completely different bolt pattern to the tranny cover and also to the seat pan.

If I"m wrong someone correct?

Allan

That's a Monroe seat, not in the parts book, either installed at the factory or by the dealer. Reason I say factory is that my dad bought a 47 H new in Jan 1948 that came with a Monroe seat on it. But it could have been changed out by the dealer, since I was only 10 at the time who knows? I don't think those were used after IH began production of the seat with the middle shock. I never paid any attention to the bolt pattern. Drove that H for nearly 5000 hours, and considered it correct, since I didn't know any better.

My '49 H also has the mid mount shock on it. While I'm not as old as it is, I knew the original owner and have no reason to believe he changed anything. I've always considered my H to be one of the most comfortable tractors to drive, due in part to that seat. Now I like my W series tractors, but they can't compare comfort wise.

I am not sure about the seat. I do know my dads 46 M had the long tube that went towards the back with a steel seat on it. He put a seat off of an H on it that has the shock and spring and sure is some differece in the ride, a bump don't near break your back now.
