Hi Guys!

Just a picture of the correct placement of the SMV sign on a non-cab 66 series tractor.

Oh, that other tractor? Just another upside down trike; this one killed the guy. :>(

Off my soapbox now.

Allan

Allan

You put the SMV on the north end (rear) of a south bound tractor unless you intend to drive down the hiway in reverse, then you hang it on the radiator.

BTW, did that tractor in the picture roll over, go over backwards or is it a computer enhanced picture?

Hey Allen,

Are you on a flipped over tractor kick or what ? Where are you coming up with these pictures ? I thought it was too flat out your way for that.

By the way, try driving a tractor here in Massachusetts, it does not matter what sign you have, people still hate you.

Allan, I really don't think there is such a thing as a "correct" placement for ANY tractor. The SMV needs to be located so that it falls into the guidelines setforth by the D.O.T. I don't know the specifics of it but it would be X number of inches from the ground and clearly visible from the rear. Any place you put it so that it meets the code would be correct, and it could vary depending on what else is mounted to the rear of the tractor.

From ASAE S276.6:

Triangle point up
within 10 degrees (plus or minus) of vertical
As near to center as possible, if not center, then left of center
2 to 10 feet from ground
nothing blocking from the rear

I just happen to have the new revision of the spec on my desk, along with the new SIS spec...

Allan, I don't have a pic. But most of the time it is mounted directly on the back of the seat, Least in the way there.
As far as the other tractor, upside down... I will probably catch-it on this but....1st.. I personally don't like narrow fronts on loader tractors. The front stability just isn't there.
2nd... Most of the time folks don't have half enough weight on the rear corners & most of the time they are set too narrow too.
Case in point.. I have rocked my 966 before, I know that it wasn't worse than my shorts getting messed was because of the, wide front, weight I carry on the back corners and that this tractor is set up on 40s... My short soapbox rant.
Later,
John A.

I watched in horror as my grand son rolled a 560 with wide front. Had load to high and went over a small mound of dirt. He did bail off, thank God and was not hurt. Needless to say his Dad pulled loader off, and they got a skid steer.
