My 1940 IHC General Catalog does not make any mention of the GC on the PD-40 power unit. They list lots of variations and options, any of which might have been identified by the GC on the serial number. The PD-40 was rated as 62.5 HP fully equipped at 1250 rpm.

Andrew - The PD-40 is a WD-40 tractor engine (start-on-gas diesel) set up for use as a stationary power unit. I presume that "P" is for Power Unit and "D" is for diesel. But I have no idea the significance of the "GC" in yours. Does it perhaps have a special power takeoff/transmission? Or is it set up as a prime mover for generator (special governor and flywheel housing)?

This one is different from other power units that i have seen. it has a long cast iron frame-the other one just had 4 legs to hold it up. the top half of the clutch housing is missing-looks factory and there are bolt holes to bolt the top back on. its longer than the other pd 40 i saw. it is setup right now to run a sawmill-has a homemade hand clutch and a big belt pulley. hope this helps. thanks
