I have an IHC 300 rowcrop. Was grinding feed today, and it made a few squeaky rumbles in the 'rear end somewhere' not horribly bad, but enough to know something isn't perfect. Did that once or twice with pto not engaged. Almost had the mill full, and the tractor lugged down, pulled hard. As I turned the pto to 'off' I noticed a wisp of smoke coming from the pto vent. However, the pto housing is cool to the touch. Pto did not go off, but the tractor powered up again, no strain. So, I cannot shut the pto off. With the lever in the middle (not locked on or off) the pto seems to run just fine - actually unloaded the feed mill that way. With the pto lever either locked on or off, the pto continues to run (no slipping) but there is a lot of power drag - like the pto brake is on - or something. No other really bad noises. I was about 8 or so when dad had the pto pulled out last - I guess I didn't take good notes way back then. Any ideas on what is going on? --->Paul
