I need to pull the engine for a rebuild and the front end is the next thing to come off the tractor. From the manual, which only addresses this matter in 2 brief paragraphs, it looks like I need to remove the bearing retainer and shaft nut; separate the steering shaft bracket from the support and then what? Do I just unscrew steering shaft from the box? This looks like the only logical next step.

By the way, thanks to El Toro for the sleeve puller drawing, Greg

Hi Greg, Glad you could use that sketch. When I restored an A, I removed the steering wheel and the steering shaft as an assembly with the front wheels. Then I pulled the engine off. Hal

I assume it is the same as a regular A. Once the large hex nut is removed from the shaft the whole steering shaft unscrews out of the steering housing towards the front of the tractor.

Greg, Take the steering wheel off, you can leave the steering shaft support on the tractor. The steering shaft will come right out of the steering box after you take off the hex cap off on the steering box.

Thanks, guys. I will need to take it apart anyway because of steering box oil leaks I would like to repair. So out comes the shaft! I'll post more picts as things progress, Greg
