Back in 1960 I drove a Farmall for my Uncle on a farm in Bakersfield Calif. It seemed old even then. I remember it had just one big front tire and the only way to start it was to hand crank it. It was gas, and I think the clutch may have been hand released. After reading all this tractor news I bought a John Deere backhoe, its great but it just isn't satisfying my desire to locate a tractor like the one I cut my teeth on. I may be able to answer more questions if needed. One question is just how much is a tractor like I drove going to cost me today? It's funny, the temperature was 120 degrees, the dust terrible, cranking that old tractor was rough, BUT now when I look back it seems like I had a great time.....Oh yeah, when your Uncle tells you not to drink ice water in 120 degrees, listen to him. Now I look back and realize he might have been a little smarter than I was..... ...

I'm not sure about the hand clutch, but you describe an F-series or a narrow front W-12+ series.

Something about putting cold water in a hot body, possibility of collapse. I have heard that before, but the water I carried around with me was probably warmer than I was.
