I am considering changing the engine in a 560 that my grandfather owned. The 301g that is in it now is in fatal order. I am interested in changing it to a 301d. If anyone has done this, please give me some pointers about linkages, other problems that will arise etc.

thank you, Stony

Could put in a D310 or a D312 from the 656,666,686 family. The D312 will probably start easier as the German D310 is known for starting hard in the cold. Both real good engines. Real expensive to rebuild however

Unless your engine has been changed previously you have a 263 gas in the 560. In my opinion it owuld not be worth it to convert to either a 282 or 301 diesel. Also the 301 diesel would probably be hard to find.

Is there such an animal as a D301? The C301 is just a C263 with no sleeves, and was run in the 806 and 856, but I've never heard of a D301. D361, I've heard of. The stock diesel in a 560 was the D281.

Anyway, it's not worth it. Even if they share the same block, you need EVERY other part from the diesel engine to convert it over, internally AND externally. It's a different crank, different pistons and rods, completely different head...

D 301 was used in early 715 IH diesel combines. They are virtually the same as the D282 engines externally. Some internal engine parts are kinda hard to come by though. My opinion, stick to a gas burner, easier starting, cheaper to rebuild, and similar hp... The only thing gained is a small increase in fuel economy
