I am wondering?if my 300 utility has a TA or not ?
I bought this tractor last summer and the loader works great,it came with a plow and disc and cultivator and post hole digger and a rototiller but with the cobbled up homemade 3 point I dont think the old fella I got it from ever used any of these attachments I'm debating on wether I should replace the 3 point with a new Saginaw unit or find another tractor to plow with? This little utility works great for moving snow and cleaning out the barn do I need a TA??

The TA was optional. Not all had it.Check your serial number as its coded into that. Also, you would have TA emblems on either side of the dashboard.A TA merely lowers the gear ratio, sorta like a granny gear in each gear...or a LOT like Mitsubishi's old "Twin Stick" with a normal AND performance ratio in each gear. That was found in Dodge Colts and Champs back in the early 80s.

It sounds a lot like the Dual power on Ford tractors. Lowers the speed by 22% and is a planatery gear system right before the transmission? Just curious

Same idea I suppose.
Like a transfer case "LO" range.
Only the TA uses a 2nd clutch. Its smaller than the main clutch.

Yeah, the dual power uses a wet clutch pack that is controlled by a sylonoid valve and that engages the planatery gear drive, so just the difference between manual and hydraulic engagement.
Thanks for the Info

See that long lever to the left side of the steering column with the squeeze handle? That's the TA, the Torque Amplifier. Pull it, and the speed of the tractor should drop by about 20%.

Just don't pull it going downhill, expecting it to slow the tractor down like a lower gear. It will freewheel, and if you don't have good brakes and quick feet, the TA will explode inside the tractor. I've read accounts of parts actually coming THROUGH the tractor to the outside world.

If there's no handle, all bets are off. It could have come from the factory with no TA. More likely, though, is that the low speed side of the TA started to slip, so rather than spend money to fix it, a previous owner simply removed the lever.
