Hello All, Anybody able to give me some pointers of how to get the starter into its place. The tractor has never had a starter and I've been cranking for 20 yrs. Decided to get a starter but I can't fit it in. Do I have to take the pulley casing off or do I have to split the tractor. Any help or points will gratefully received.

Thanks

John W.

Thanks for the information. It looks like the pulley housing option is the best bet.

Everyone have a Good Day!

Thanks,

John W.

Yep!
Its not really a big job to remove the pully housing. Four bolts, one in each corner and then the two long ones in the centre. I just slide the housing over since it is a real brute to lift off completely. Takes about 20 minutes.

Experoment first.Sometimes simply turning and tilting them in just the right way will let them slide into place. You DO NOT have to pull the belt pulley, although it may be easier, you can simple remove the front two bolts on the clutch cover and loosen as much as possible the rear ones, pry up on the front of the cover on the starter side just enouhg to get it in.There is one bolt directly under the starter that will need to be in a posistion to make it easier to get in with the starter on top of it,youll fiqure out what I mean.I just simply used a shorter bolt and that wasnt a factor.

In my experience, I"ve had to remove the pulley housing off the tractor to get the starter into place. A bit of a PITA, but it seems to be necessary.
