WOD: If you wish, there is a discussion in the archives here at YT, better than any I've seen in a manual. Discussion is between Marty Scholl and Paul Haas, Paul giving excellent advice in my opinion and dated Dec. 06, 2001. Farmall Super A. If for some reason you can't find it, e mail me, I have it on file for future use, could send it too you.

WOD, I could explain the adjustments, but I would strongly recommend that you or your friend invest in an IT shop manual which will include illustrations as well as procedure. That way if you run into a snag, you can post another question, and when answered, you will have some reference as to what someone is talking about. There are more than one setting to consider. Are you referring to low idle, high idle, surging correction? Your question is certainly legitimate, but vague.

My friend told me that on high idle, the governor
will not cut in at all.

Thanks,
WOD

WOD, The first thing I"d do is check the operating linkage to make sure nothing is binding or lost motion, and correct anything that would cause such a condition before doing anything to the governor assembly itself. Once that issue is solved or satisfied, and the problem you state still persists, consider the fact that the governor weights could either stuck into one position, or broken, since the fast idle shouldnt have changed once it had been set. Now then, if you have been into the governor and had it apart, then adjustments would be necessary. High idle speed adjustment is made with the speed change lever in wide open position by turning the adjusting screw which is located on the top of the governor housing.
