KevinH,

I am also a SC Man. I have a plow identical to yours on my small farm. The sad thing is that hearing my father-in law tell the story it was parked in the late 60s and now large cedar trees have grew through the plow and a couple of elms have grew into parts of it. I am going to rescue it soon one saturday. I am positive if I can get it out without bending it too bad it is still OK. Everything there and the disks will still turn by hand. Thanks for the picture, it made me want to rescue mine.

Hi Kevin,

I'm proud of ya too!

Not familiar with the dry land farming. What does the rod going to the front end do?

Allan

It steers the rear tail wheel on the plow. Not up on the official terms, but when the tractor turns, so does the plow.

the rod from the front to the rear is the stearing linkige; it turns the back wheel on the plow. Ive made many trips around the fild pulling the same kind of plow with my H befor I went into the army

Leroy, I'm new to plowing with this monster, and would love a few pointers on the ins and outs of using this thing. For instance, do you plow up and then back, or go up one side of the field then back down the other side?

i always started on the outside of the field and worked my way in. depending on the soil, i ran mostly in 3rd gear...heavy clay ide drop down to second...i cant remember ever having any problems pulling the plow with my H. i have photos of it hanging on my wall.... just wish i had one for my M now

Not right off hand, but I'll keep an ear open. Do you know anyone with the pump and connections for the hydraulic unit for a 12 or 14? I bought the main unit, but it is missing the other 2 parts.

hard to see, but it's a 3. I've only recently acquired it, but I pulled it through the small garden(hard SC red clay) and it did real good in 3rd at 1/2 throttle.

I have many hours on an H with that type plow. The reason you can pull in 3rd is that the ground is hard and it won't penetrate very deep. When a little wetter and about 6-8 inches deep, full throttle 2nd is all your H will want. Disk plows do make the 2 plow H into a 3 plow though, less draft due to the rotation of the disks, I suppose. Occasionally it will pull in 3rd, but not if depth is your objective.

Did you say hard SC red clay? This stuff is where I play in the mud in Lower Richland. Where's yours?

Up in the Golden Corner, Seneca to be exact. I'm about 10 miles west of Clemson.

I thought all y'all had up there were rocks. ;-)
Seriously, folks, I went to any number of good rocks concerts at Clemson when I was at Wofford, back 35+ years ago.
Come to think of it, I had the use of one of those three disk pull behind new-ground plows for my folks place near Walterboro in the late sixties. Mostly used it to cut firelines around the planted pines. Pulled it with a 350D from my grand-dad's Farmall shop. Thought it was an antique. By my standards now it was a new tractor.

Just on the Richland County side of the Wateree River, half way between Columbia and Sumter.
A sandhill on one side of the house, swamp on the other.
What show is that?
