Well I first need to be a little clearer on the issue, I apologize. I was in a hurry writing my last post and left out some important information. The scammer actually sent me a second chance offer that looks like any second chance offer from ebay and I replied to it first. Always being a little suspicious, I double checked to see if the email was the same as the seller and noted the discrepancy. I know it is not uncommon for someone to have two or more different emails. At first I though the seller may have been upping his own bid. After I contacted the seller and buyer, I realized that was not the case. When the scammer emailed me back without the details and stated the shipping was included, then I knew for sure it was some scammer outside the antique tractor world.

I spoke with some of my colleagues and learned they just want you name, address, phone number and ebay ID number at first just to take your identity on ebay. Then they send you payment instructions. After that they use your identity to conduct future scams to other people and confuse authorities. My scammer keeps sending me more information and I was told the scammer is outside the country (I think they told me Jamaica). I guess this particular scam is very popular right now and is currently being investigated by the feds as we speak. All of my stuff is being turned over to them. My advise is this, if you have received a scam on ebay and want to contact someone, then contact ebay at Link if you have given money to one of these scammer call your local authorities and have a report filed and contact ebay. This is just information to pass on that I was given by the people who are suppose to know. Don’t be scared or delete any second chance offers. Just use some common sense and contact the buyer. I personally would contact the buyer by phone just to make sure the deal is legitimate. A fellow officer that I work with (been on the job for over 10 years) fell for a similar scam and was out $60. It can happen to anyone, he was comfortable and didn’t look into it. Hope this helps and enjoy ebay.

Thanks Sprout, There are people out there that try to do it right like myself and its getting hard enough to sell without people being warry of you. The one problem I see with Ebay is when you send a second chance offer they need a little box that you can type in to give more info to that person and you cant all that you can do is send the offer for what ever there bid was. I myself always send 2 emails
The second chance offer and an email to the person also. Some times they respond and alot of the times nothing. I just wish they would respectavly decline. But then again I give feedback as soon as I am paid and I am still waiting for my feed back to arive and waiting and waiting,LOL JON

Ebay needs to delete that "second chance offer" until they stop the bleeding here. I sold a hubcap. I had two so I contacted the back bidders and offered them that one at what they had bid. No response. I listed the second one, both of them bid on it, and one of them bought it. For more than my offer. Guess they were
being very cautious. So this "second chance" thing is just hurting ebay with no advantages that I can see.

If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay, forward it immediately to spoof@ebay.com. Do not respond to it or click any of the links. Do not remove the original subject line or change the email in any way when you forward it to them. They will get back with you if it is legitamate or not. I have had probably a dozen of these types of emails checked and not one of them was genuine.
