Hi

Was a droolin' over your tractor this morning.

Does it have 34" wheels on the rear? Or, is all that weight hangin' back there clouding my otherwise "iffy" judgement? :>)

Allan, Morning!, Yes, those are 18.4 x 34s. Running a set of Galaxy tires currently.
Got to get my new set of airplane front mounted shortly.

Mornin',

Casey up in South Dakota has a 766 that came with the 34s; it also just seemed foreign to me because this is all row crop land here for the most part and I've never seen a tractor of that size equipped with the 34” wheels.

Come to think of it, even the smaller row crop tractors usually have the 38” wheels too.

Sure learn a lot just hangin' 'round you guys. :>)

Question---A 766 will have a tough time untracking a 20 ft disk for transport mutch lesss than spread out nd ready to go to work. I woul think that is a recipt for disaster! .

well john,
i'm not expecting the 766 to pull it, but i don't see a problem in trying. i grew up in WI on a dairy farm and have learned first hand how different things are in different parts of this great country. back home in WI we pulled 4-18's behind a stout 1086. it was all it wanted. when we were behind we hooked a 3-18 behind a 1256 to help and again that was all it wanted. out here in SD my neighbors pull a 6-18 land plow with their 1206 and a 5-18 with a 806. crazy stuff!!! the neighbor seems to think the 766 can handle it so i guess there's only one way to find out :>)

Casey, I agree that the different soil types in different parts of the country changes things. IE...
A 150 hp tractor in the TX/OK strip can easly handle a 21 ft offset spindle deep (1066/4640) in the High Plains sand.
Down here in Centra Texas the same tractor will handle only about 18ft in this Black Clay ground.
It just seemed to me one would be highly under- shod in this situation.
So from that view point I made my statement. I wasn't trying to be rude or cute.

John A.

Yes Sir,

I know; but a feller has got to be really careful what he says on here because people do things differently in different parts of the country (I've found this out the hard way :>).

But, you're right. A twenty footer, folded and lifted for transport would be a handful for a 766, in my mind.

Ever see a 1466 with a 490 hydraulic fold comin' at ya on a county road? Makes ya wanna dive for the nearest bomb shelter. :>)

However, if he has a really good chance of buying it right, I don't blame him for giving it a lot of consideration.

What I read is that (at least initially) 34" came standard. Mine does have 38s" though. Well one 38 and another chunk of rust loosly following the axle round and round.

Slo,

Is that right rear rim so bad that it can't be salvaged? I noticed that your dad had blocked up the axle on that side.

Calcium leak, ya think?

Yah the calcium has been leaking. No salvage to it. The left is pretty good. I got a bunch of volunteers bringing a donated rim from Ohio this Friday. I guess I'll need to fire up the grill to thank them. What a great country is rural America! Still scratch my head over the city slickers though.

My 706 ger. had 18.4-34"s

Feller came over a hill doin about 95 on this gravel road. And there I was pullin a oneway down the road. Feller hit brakes, front bumper bout touched the road and he missed the oneway by inches.
