International 674 Hydraulic Problem

My mid 70's IH674 keeps stopping up the hydraulic filter. I have drained and put in new oil, but every 8-10 hours of use it stops up the filter. When this starts to happen, the lift doesn't work well and steering starts to go. The last time this happened, I changed the filter, but it continued to have hydraulic problems, PTO not turning properly, lift not picking up, except at high rpm, etc. Suddenly it started working and has been working since. Any advice would be appreciated. fyi, you can see the crud on the filter/screen when it stops up.

Tractor Vet is right on the money.I just had mine repaired from the same thing. The emergency brake material blocks the hydraulic fluid from the system. If you have trouble with it not working, drive up on a slight incline, with the front of the tractor higher than rear.It should work until it blocks up the system again. It will plug up right away if you use it down hill. I had mine all cleaned out with new filter and new brake ,works like a new one.cost of repair including parts was 1,000.$150 was for parts.

I think you have pointed me in the right direction. Now that you mention it TWL, I have had it block up several times after going down a steep incline. Thanks, Clark

Sounds like you have brake material getting into the filter and somehow got past the filter and into the valves. Change the filter and take it apart and look at it real close and see what it is trapping . I would bet that it is time to start taking it all the way down and cleaning everything and replacing parts .
