I"m looking at a IH 766. Was surprized to find 80 hp in such a large frame. My concern is fuel economy. Seems like this would drink the fuel.

The most I would require would be to pull a round baler and a chopper with a one row corn head or a grass head. No doubt this would do it. With $2 diesel am I crazy to be looking at this? Anybody got experience with fuel economy of this one?

Also, I"ve heard that some parts are getting hard to come by for Internationals. I have had a 574 for 10+ years and have had no problems getting parts so far. Should I expect problems getting parts for a 766 in the future? Thanks.

Would say it is Very easy on fuel. Have an 826 ( and a half dozen other diesels of various colors) and the 826 does a lot of work /gal of fuel. Also I fix up & resell tractors & local Case/Int dealer is better to get parts for & more reasonable price wise than the other brands' dealers. Can always get red parts; green & blue/red/gray parts places are too quick to say "that part is out of production" Don't get that statemant when go for red parts.

Probably the best 84 hp tractor ever made -or that ever will be made. Solid as a rock, lots of lugging ability, rather easy on fuel, handles like a dream. And the most user friendly 3-pt hitch ever.

Hi Mark,

Crazy? Heck no, ya ain't crazy! If you found a good one, grab it!

Pullin' hard on that round baler or corn chopper, it will burn a third less fuel than an H will burn bladin' the darned drive way.

Look at the hours tho, look at the hours.

i have a '76 766 and i love it!!!!! it's the perfect "little" big tractor. exactly the same as a 966/1066 just a smaller engine. it's not over powered to tear up my equipment but it's not pushed around by loads that would make my 706 beg for mercy. i've only had mine since fall and so far it has been very easy on fuel, but i'm comparing it to a gas 706 so just about anything is better. it starts on it's own down to about 20 degrees, below that i just plug it in for about an hour before use. i would say get it, should be perfect for what you want to do!

allen,
tires will be here tomorrow and wheels next week. not sure when i'll get around to mounting them. i'm thinkin about some paint too so i think that will get done first. it should be done by the first of may. i just got the tires coming fast because of the price hike april first. being that i work for a car dealer we sell tires too and a few of my suppliers handle every tire so when i saw the new price sheets come through i said holy s$#t! the 706 is long over do for tires and the 34's on the 766 are still okay so i'm gonna move them over to the 706 and treat the big one to some new skins! i'll get some pictures for ya as soon as it's done.

They"re not too bad on fuel. A little worse than the German IH engines, but worth it for the torque they produce. Belive it or not, they also built a 766 gas- 6 gallons per hour easy. Your dealer can get all of the common wear parts, and many parts interchange with the 9, 10, and 1466, which are three of the most common IH"s, so salvage yard parts will not be a problem.
