Just purchased a 400 rowcrop. The IPTO lever takes more force than I think it should to disengage. When it is disengaged, there is a slight grinding or squeeling sound. I grabbed the I&T manual, and backed off the adjustment studs and balanced the throw of the lever so that it engages smoothly and does not grind. The stop plate on the IPTO unit looks like it had been worn or bent, and then welded back up. Because of this, I cannot see the punch marks that the manual mentions for adjustment. My question is, as long as it shifts smoothly, and doesnt grind anymore, is it ok, or should I get a new stop plate and adjust it according to the manual? Thanks

Scott that PTO the SMTA 300 350 400 450 and the first 460 560 always had some squeel when off when on it would quite, that is why there was a disconect in the TA housing so the PTO could be shut off in not in use for long tome.

check the oil??? on left hand side are two plugs.
if it is squeeling like a stuck hog the bearings in the planetary are going out. replace oil first and run it a while engaged and then see if it still squeels after that. should take 2 quarts

The oil is fine. It's just a minor squeal, probably from the bands being out of adjustment. I searched the archives and found some information from Dick that I will try. Thanks.
