Man o man!!!! My M seat was moving side to side, so i got some new bushings to put in. So i took the pivot rod out got it all cleaned up and put it back, got the new rubbers on and tried to put it back on. If you push it back in, then the bushings rub against the metal and roll out. They stick out a bit, i think they are supposed to. if not then i got the wrong one's. Spent 2 hours of trying to get it in. So i just put one new one in and one old one. but it still sways. I got rammy and started hammerin, so i screwed the pivot rod, got one ordered. How the heck do you guys get them in? Just might have to bring it to the shop and let them do it. But i dont feel like spending $50+ on just getting then bushings in!

Glad I read this first! Bought the bushings a couple weeks back and today replaced them. It is a bugger! I got them in using the putty knife method, but had to cuss a whole lot to get it to work. Finished up by thoroughly crossthreading one of the bolts, but kept tightening it until it got against the lock washers -- it was a race to break it or bottom it.

Figure I will never need to do this again, so, who cares?

Mitch: So that was you I heard swearing from my back step. First I thought it must be a St Pats Day Party in Chatham.

I remember changing those once on Farmall 300. Really I don't even care to remember. One on the most unplesant tasks around a Farmall.

Did you use lots of dishwashing soap to make everything slippery?

Either soap or a lot of cup grease to make 'em slide. Then, use a thin putty knife as a "shoehorn".

They'll slide right down in there.

Thanks for the putty knife idea. That and the soap should do the trick.

I would not put any petroleum product on the bushing. The compound of the bushing may be dammaged by the solvent effect. Silicon Grease is my choice. I use Dow Corning 111 in a tooth paste size/type of tube. (Ive had mine for 25 years so the number may not be current) If the booger is still tough to run in, I would use an impact wrench (set on low power) to spin it while pushing. It may take a spare nut as a shim in the bottom of the socket to allow the bolt head to be pushed home. to keep it new, keep it out of the sun and Ozone. Black tape cut to width works.

Try using rubber lubricant. Have used it a lot and it will not damage the rubber bushings. That is what it is made for. It is slicker than snot.
