I am assuming that carburetors will interchange between M's, SM's and SMTA's. Is their a difference in design that makes the newer ones better performers. I noticed that the SM's have the choke lever on the right side of the carburetor. Was this changed for any reasons other than a choke wire configeration? Thanks for the information. Marv

Thanks for the reply Rusty. My SH does have the choke lever on the inside. However, the SM has it on the outside. This leads me to believe the carburetors and carb parts are interchanagble. I'm currently overhauling the carb and trying to make one good carb out of two old ones.

I am certainly not an expert but I think the primary differances are all inside the carb, venturi sizes etc. I'll have to go look at my 1940 M but I am pretty sure all of the M carbs have the choke control on the inside, as do the super H carbs. The choke rod on the outside of the carb was prone to being snagged by weeds, brush, etc, and pulling the choke closed. Whether this is the reason for changing or not, I do not know.
