Allen Inprevious posts I see your H has a loader and Charlyn power steering and I was wondering how wasy it steers. I have a M with a WL/30 loader and it I think it steers alittle hard. I didn't know if it was working properly or it is because of the loader. It does have schwartz wide front, would that make a difference? Thanks

Jo,

Will that little pump handle things under a loader too?

I've got one of those pulley type pumps out in my extra stuff somewhere. Oughta figure a way to hook 'er up. It would be nice to have both steering and the full speed of that loader too, if it would just work.

You have a loader on your tractor?

Allan

have an M and a 400 with loader. 400 has charlynn and I move round bales and snow and do not have a problem. both of mine are mounted in front of the governor (left side). made a plate to bolt with the outside plate of gov. and hung the reservoir off a piece of angle iron bolted to the head bolt in front with a strap like the air cleaner uses. when daylight comes i could send a pic to give you an idea. email is open

Hey,

Pictures would be great. I think I have that same governor mounting. It is off of a M and didn't think there would be room to mount it on a H. My pulley is off a M too; 'spose that isn't gonna work on a H either?

It really would be nice to get that loader back to speed again. I chews at me every time I use the darned thing. But, I'm such a picky ol' duffer and just figured I'd have to put up with it. :>)

Thanks,

Allan

DHB,

This one has the Swartz front end and shows some problems also.

Here's how mine works 'cause I'm using a live pump with that maunual priority valve for both the loader and the power steering.

Without the weight of the loader, everybody is happy, but if I lift the loader and the tractor is setting still, power steering just doesn't wanna work right and it fights back a little with only that 3 1/2 gal of oil.

If I bump up the oil flow just a little to the torque motor, then the steering works okay, but then the loader suffers.

So, what I've done, is that I've got into the habit of making sure the tractor is rolling just a bit before I move the steering wheel and then it is a "one-finger" deal all the way.

It sure isn't perfect by any means, but it is light years ahead of the way it used to be. I pushed snow all morning with it and had the time of my life.

My biggest trouble now is that darned muffler; I just gotta get an original one from somewhere. This aftermarket thing drives me nuts... Makes the tractor sound like an old 'tater truck, especially when it is working hard.

Allan, my H with the Behlen power steering works pretty much the same as you described, unless I want to run the engine about half wide open, then everything is fine. I think that's just the way it is with aftermarket power steering. I still wouldn't want to be without it.

Hi Rusty,

Could be; I sure don't know. I didn't even give it a thought until last spring while I was moving a lot of dirt here to make a pad to plant a building on.

Dumb ol' me, just a workin' away and didn't even know what I was missin'. Just happened to think one day that maybe power steering might be nice. :>)

Put the darned power steering on and I'll never have another tractor without it. Goes to show ya what age will do to an old codger. I don't ever remember 'em steering that hard when I was young. :>(
