My 2001 GMC drivers window screwed up so I took it to the dealer and I had to get a new window redulator because they are cable operated and you cannot just replace the cable= buy the whole unit, of course my warranty has just run out. I was telling a mechanic friend of mine and he said he could fill the back of my truck with GMC window regulators that he has replaced and he predicted that the passenger side would be close behind....later the same day the passenger window regulator snapped. Well after spending $332 for one I was not happy and went straight to the dealer. The area warranty supervisor refused warranty saying they weren't having a problem with regulators. The dealer's service manager told me they had replaced quite a few this winter so they suggested the GMC Help Line. In short I got the same reaction from that rep, that they were not aware that there was any problem with the design and workmanship of the regulators. My last words were that it was interesting that a truck with 93K would have both window regulators go in a two day period and that a repair shop guy would tell me he could fill the back of my truck with broken ones he has replaced. Anybody out there had to replace them on your GMC truck/Chev truck? Thanks, I would appreciate any feedback...Mike in Exeter Ontario

99 - 02 PICKUP FULL SIZE, C, K, R, V SILVERADO BODY STYLE FRONT DOOR GM83-K is that what you've got? Link once through(or skip) the intro go down to application guides, they may have something different from what they factory uses, I'd imagine the gm and chevy parts interchange for something like that.

HAD an ASTRO van (truck),note the HAD, replaced 2 window regulators on driver window, and the one in it was bad when I sold it. Also windshield wiper control,anti-theft chip in steering wheel and windshield (it came unglued and leaked water),A/c hadto be totally replaced, etc. What a piece of s--t. I will never have another GM product.

Ya, dads work pickup is a 01 or 02 chev. The passenger side window thingy went last year, so far no driver side yet. It also needed a new cadalit converter however you spell it, and new universals twice. The truck has almost 300,000 km's on it

Hi Mike,
Can't say I can tell you about good or bad with these, I don't really know anyone with that model/series of trucks. (Everyone I know seems to have old crap like mine, or brand new, under warranty)

I am curious though, as to what particular part of the regulator gave out, I know we make some window mechanism parts at work, but no idea what vehicles they are used on. (A pic would be great if you can easily do it.)
My email's open if you just want to send me a pic directly.
Thanks,
Mark

Greywynd,I believe that this particular regulator has a small steel cable that feeds through the mechanism to move the glass carrier up or down, the problem is the cable frays then breaks and....you cannot just replace the cable because of the design of it , but you have to replace the whole unit..sorry I havent any pics. GM charges $190 for the regulator whereas a jobber is $167 plus an hours labour and in Ontario 7%+8% taxes so a little over $300 and then the left side goes the next day!!!! Mike in Exeter Ontario

Yeah, I know about the taxes, I live just outside of Peterborough. (Maybe 4 hours or so from you?) I know that we manufacture some of the shafts that go in some of the regulators, just have no idea what makes/models. Recently found out that we make the 'cable' type dipsticks used on Toyota and Honda, again, not sure which exact models. We cast the bottom end (add/fill) part onto a length of cable. After seeing the tolerances on the cable lengths, I haven't been nearly as fussy if the oil is a 1/16" over the full mark.

I know a guy whose K1500 has been breaking down a lot.First his wife lost the brakes (to the floor),and then the power assist on the steering went away, and now it was out of action for 2 days last week. The guy is GM all the way...but I betcha that piece o'crap is making him think differently. He bought it used a year ago or so,and probably wishes he bought a new one.(Or something else).
