Farmall Stuff

Had to run in to the local red shop today, so asked 'em about a few of the things we have been talking about here the past few days.

First, those darned white demos: Yes, indeedy do. Most common in As, Cs, Hs and the Ms. Dealers would left farmers try 'em out, keep track of the hours and would then deduct an amount from the sticker price if and when the white rascal sold. They did this with machinery too, I'm told.

Different sizes on the 66 series large chassis rear ends: 1066 and 1466 are the same having the larger axles, bulls and pinion bearings. Smaller, but identical are the 766 and 966.

Then, the shocker: Walked back into the shop to check how my 966 was coming along. Three different stencils are available for the 1976. Regular "normal" black stripe scheme, a black stripe scheme somewhat resembling the 86 series and lastly, black stripe resembling the 86 series if equipped with a cab.

So, guess mine is gonna end up looking kinda like an 86 series tractor with the "966" designation up in the stripe area instead of having the ‘badge’ on the white panel.

Well, that is what I was expecting and it kinda surprised me when I saw it. I was looking for the old style setup, but it looks something like this only it has the 966 where this one has the 686.

They were just waiting for one left rear section and the right front section of the decals and then the darned old tractor is totally done.

Now, if I can just talk my wife into roading it home.

I'm an old man, ya know and I really feel that she should do it instead of me, especially since the temps are under 70 degrees yet and I just might get a chill. :>)

Of course, you probably ought to plan on sitting up at the intersection to make sure I don't take a "wrong turn" and head east....haha!

I think they must have just "guessed"? Dunno.

Like I say, I've never even heard of the things until I heard you guys talk about 'em here.

What demo implements did they mention? I know IH did some gold demo plows in the 60's.

He menioned (hope I have this right) a 147 baler? He says the guy still has it and is using it to this day. Painted all white with red stencils (lettering).

I thought Waukesha was the given Sioux Indian name for Farmall and that the IH plants were always listed, just like corn.

I'm never gonna get all this stuff straight in my ol' pee brain!

Naw, all these little IH details really intrigue me for some darned reason. Listenin' to the big dogs talk just shows me how bad my memory really is. :>)

Have you started on that H with the T/A and 414T yet?
