I have a bad case of IH fever right now. I have six Farmalls already but I would like to get a 656 too. I really don't need it because I don't farm any longer and the tractors I have basically just set around. How do I solve this bad case I have?

I've only got 9 tractors, my 14 year old daughter wants a horse, tried to talk her into buying a tractor, mabey an H, but she won't go for it.

Over the past year I'v gotten 4 new tractors, the only cure is to keep buying, it never ends. Also one point to make is what if you get 6 of your farmalls stuck how you going to pull them out??? With the new 656!!! Sounds like a good reason to get one Andrew

My wife has explained that I have a more generic form of tractoritis - about 6 at this point, 4 Fords, 1 Oliver and 1 IH (656D- ya really need one!). I have continually been able to justify the "need" for each of them. I think you need to work harder on the justification end - I have several suggestions for approaches:

1. The great deal - once in a lifetime, gonna make an easy $1,000 bucks etc. Of course you have to sell to realize any gains, but that is a whole separate conversation.

2. Plan to get back into farming. Organic farming is really viable - people making tons of money etc. Need a reasonable size, larger, smaller, loader, etc. to really thrive.

3. Investment opportunity. Tractors are appreciating 20% a year - how much did we get last year in our retirement account? 4%.....etc.

4. New/old tractors are a lot cheaper than a mistress and you always know where I am going to be. I think you need to go easy on the delivery of this one, maybe use it as the ace in the hole if you really need it.

Sounds like you got the fever about as bad as we do. Me and my dad have 5 tractors and don't farm full time. 4 antiques and 1 more modern bucket tractor. I'd like an M, but I've decided we're at our limit for tractors, we can't use any more and me and dad can't come up with an agreement on which one to sell to get another one!. Dad has his favorites and I have mine.

If you keep buying enough of them, it will, partially at least, justify erecting a nice building to store them in. Maybe even a nicer Dually with a longer gooseneck to haul them. Always remember that the more tractors you have, the more reasons to acquire the periferial (sp) items such as more tools, heated shops, paint booths, etc. YOu get the picture, Im sure.

Sounds to me kinda like a horsey problem. The only good thing about tractors, if ya get busy, bored, etc. you can always come back later and everything will be as you left it. Don"t have to feed them while you"re gone, etc. Harley

It all depends on the checking/savings account and also on the better half (if you have one, a better half that is). Most of us don't need the tractors that do we have. But that doesn't stop us from buying/acquiring them anyway. Sometimes a person has to be creative in determining the need for an additional tractor. Anybody that has worked for a big company and has been around the budgeting and job justification process can relate to this.
