Was out burning burning nettle, burrdock, corn stubble, etc. yesterday and using my 240U with front blade. I noticed the blade wasn"t lifting and power steering was getting gerky (sp). Thought I had better get out of the burning field. Ended up backing up to the barn and blade wouldn"t lift. Checked the oil and level is WAY up. Pump shot? I asked an old IH dealer and he said they gave up repairing pumps as the seals wouldn"t hold. Now they replace with new. Comments...thanks. Oh, yeah, while going through the field with my "45 2N w/front blade I had visitors. First county deputy checking to see if someone was monitoring the fire-just as I was starting the 2N. Later, the fire chief showed up and said the dep"t. was on its way as the fire had been called in. Asked if I wanted it put out, I said NO. Sorry for rambling. That 2N sure saved me a lot of work yesterday, blading off material to confine the fire. Signed...a former local firefighter.

i tried replacing the seals in my super c pump 3x. they wouldn't hold.there was a fine groove where the seal had run, that i could feel with my fingernail, though i couldn't see it. you can find a used pump on ebay for $80-125. mine was $120. new ones are $300+ on ebay, $425 from tisco, $600+ from ih. a pump from a super a, super c, 200, and 230 all look the same as the pump for a 240. there may be a difference in volume, check with your dealer.

Did they / will they send you a bill? I've heard that if someone calls the fire dept. and you don't have a burning permit they will fine/charge you a hefty amount.
Oh, sorry about the 240- I'm afraid I'm not much help there.

No charge as there wasn"t a burning ban until today in our township. Even then, it is at the discretion of the township and fire chief. Now, what to do about the hyd. pump.

Al, where in Wi are you? I had the hydraulic motor go out in my haybine. I ended up going to Astro hydraulics in Green Bay. They ended up setting me up with a new motor, but repairing those things (including pumps) is what they do. I wonder what they might say about it. If you don't get to Green Bay, look up Hydraulic repair in the yellow pages. It's just a thought.
