Hi Guys,

I've got a hydraulic telltail light that isn't working and apprears to be a bad bulb. The book lists it as being a 257 bulb.

Can those things be changed from the front of the dash? Seems to have kind of a funky lens/bezel to it? (Sorry for the lousey picture)

Or, have I gotta replace that whole light assembly? All there is on the back is a big nut.

Thanks,

Allan

Did they come with different kinds of warning lights from the factory? Our 966"s looks different. It seems to me that as a little kid, I used to turn the plastic top all the time and it would never come off. Also, ours is really rounded, and not so squared off on top of the cover. Our light burned out too. I am going to have to look at that again. I didn"t try fixing it because I thought it had to go in from the back.

Yes,

They were larger too as I recall; 'bout twice as big around?

Yeah, about that much bigger. Do you know if they come apart the same way?

The chrome ring is also threaded in to the socket body to remove the whole socket you must get the ring to spin also.Radio shack sells a plastic body socket also but the original back piece is metal not plastic.

Sorry Chadd,

Just don't know.

The bulb that was in mine was a 256. My old '72 book calls for a 257. They are a long skinny thing, so I'm bettin' your lens screws off too.

I was just looking at one of your earlier posts with the picture of the gauges on your tractor. Our 966 has the gas gauge on the left, the filter in the middle, and the amperage on the right. Amazing how every tractor is a little different. The other day I saw this picture of a 1466 with the old multicolored banded gauge like the 60,06,56,26 series. I never knew they came like that. (about par for the course:)

Somtimes its hard to turn those bulbs once you get the cover off.If you take some shrink tubing and shrink it onto the bulb it gives your fingers something to grip on.I noticed Radio-Shack sells the red plastic caps[although not as dark as original]

Now Allan, how did you manage to get out to your tractor, figure it out, take a picture, come back in, and post it all in 12 minutes. You're amazing, my friend. I can't get nuttin done in that amount of time.

Hi Paul,

We are in the middle of a raging blizzard here. Don't think it is gonna be long-lived, but still, it is really, really nasty out there.

Last night, I took the muffler off the tractor and moved it and all the sheet metal that was laying out in the yard into the garage, which handily enough, is only two steps from my desk. :>)

It's a nice day in WI- no snow or rain. However our weatherman thought your weather was remarkable enough to talk about it on the news last night. Looks like quite a storm. Nice day to work on something in the shop, huh?
