Going to replace the governor spring on my son's 1947 "H". Anything I need to know before I pop the side cover off ?? Don't want any surprises and I don't have any books on it. I have the replacement gasket and the spring. Does the engine supply the oil to governor ?? Thanks

When I replaced that spring in my H I decided to start it up to see did everything move the way I thought it should. I'm here to tell ya, the engine does supply oil to the governor. A veritable Niagra.

Nothing should pop out at ya, id it does then ya have more problems than a spring. Believe it is similar wo an M, if sop the oil comees from the front part, that sometimes gets blocked and have seen them with external line. When stopped not a lot of oil in there as it drains out. Running it is messy but might be worth while to make sure it is getting oil. Think it is easier with throttle clear open, if not it is closed, the direction that puts the ends of the spring closest together. Not hard with a pair of pliers. You might want to check that other things are loose in there also like weights and bearings. Not really loose like fall out loose but so they can move freely.
