Mornin' All,

Got this old heifer all tuned up and ready to plant. Now, I'm gonna go get after that cultivator.

Betcha I'm gonna end up being a "bearing replacment expert" in just a few short days. Where's my penetrating oil? :>)

Hi Allan, We should've had that planter when I was growing up. I wonder how many of these farm
implements were ideas from farmers. Probably like the intermitten windshield wipers. Have fun planting shouldn't be too long now. Up near 80
here in MD today. My tomato plants are looking good. Hal

Hi Hal,

This idea was for sure. A couple of brothers up in North Dakota, or so the story goes.

Still two weeks away from corn plantin' time here. Can't wait to try this old gizmo out and see if it plants as good with these Acri-Plant shoes on, as the double disc openers did on my old planter.

We're just plantin' some deer runs, so won't make a hooyey if it doesn't, I guess. :>)

They usually start planting corn in May in my area. They probably start a week or two earlier
in southern MD and on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

I've seen hard freezes in the middle of May, not too often though. Do you use liquid fertilizer
when planting corn? They use a lot of it around
here when planting then go back and side dress several times during the growing season. That's what I did, but most farmers are using no till and
do it all in one pass across the field.

My late father-in-law was a dairy farmer too and
when my mother-in law saw them planting using no till; she said that won't grow any corn. Later that summer I showed her the corn which was very tall and green. Hal

Yes Sir,

Used to have two 150 barrels strapped to the sides of my 766 and laid that liquid in there right along with the planter. It really worked sweet because the weight of the liquid offset the planter, the seed, herbicide and insecticide hangin' back there on the other end.

If the season was right, we knifed the Nitrogen in early before planting, or if we were running late due to weather, we could always come back and side-dress later.

I liked to do it early as a guy could take a bigger swath using a wider applicator and it also allows one to tow a nurse tank. Side-dressing requires stopping and filling the rig.

The boys around here are knifing in ammonia just as hard as they can go right now tryin' to hit that May 1 planting date.
