Hi Guys,

The two center press wheels on a Cyclo planter run a cast iron, grease-able hub against a 5/8" steel axle.

Perfectionist that I am, I think they should be replace after all these 30ish years so I call CaseIH and, "Can I still get parts?"

Less than 30 hours later, we have new hubs and axles air dropped from Kansas City. These guys are impressin' me more and more every time I call 'em. :>)

Reading all these posts, it is amazing the variety of opinions. I would like to make several comments myself. First, I am always amazed at the number of parts available at my local Case IH dealer. They stock parts for all of the letter series Farmalls or have them in a day or so. It seems that they have all wearing parts like seals, bearings, gaskets, etc. I agree that parts are expensive, but they are also expensive if you have taken your car to the garage to have it repaired. Many of these companies make their money on repair parts. I am just glad that they still stock all these parts; because if I had to have them made at a machine shop they would really be expensive. One alternative to bearings and seals is to get them directly from a bearing supply house (they also have been bought out and combined so there is not as many to select from so less competition).   CaseIH Did It Again; how 'bout this? in reply to Allan in NE, 04-21-2005 13:49:56
You can't buy the shifter/powershift control unit for 51XX and 52XX Maxxum tractors. Not available. Discontinued. CaseIH's answer is to ship the failed units to Skaskatchewan for refurbishment. I left the CaseIH dealership in 1997 and Maxxums were still in production as I recall. Pretty sad commentary on product support. Of course they can job out anything that can be built cheap and sell in volume.

Allen did not suprise me that you could still get your planter parts, We lost our IH dealer that was 12 miles from here but it was for the better. Now I go 35miles the other direction, Last wednesday I phoned in an order Super H parts. The list was, new heat guage, new oil guage, new complete sedimate bowl assembly, 2 seals for the front of the transmission, seal for the pto shaft.new rubber seals for the brake housings.and a needle seat pac for my neighbors B. I told him to call when the parts came in, His reply was come on over I have your parts in stock. little over a 100 bucks for everthing. These guys that complain about IH parts costs should go to the Deere store. My opinion.

The Deere parts may be expensive, but they have a fantastic web site and online ordering system. They will even tell you where the parts are in stock. No need for a phone call and available 24/7. Case/IH/New Holland could learn something here.

That's no kiddin'!

I find 'em cheaper on most stuff and it is the authenic parts and not some foreign rip offs.

our parts are cheaper if we go north than if we go south- deere and NH closer north, caseih same distance, but the cheaper closer nh dealer not very good nothing in stock. more expensive farther away deere dealer south has less in stock. Just never think to go the other way just found this out recently and it's hard to break that habit.

If CASE/CNH was really on top of things, they would realize that there are hundreds of thousands of their (well....the original IHC's anyway)prior products still alive and working across America, and they need to stop dropping part numbers and start re-issuing some.Even in small volumes its still a ready market, and a stable market.Who thinks in 5 years all the old IH/Farmall tractors will be junked? 10? 20? Its the future they need to prepare for(if Fiat/CNH has a future). The future started 30-50 years ago, they need to get hustling.

If I was at the helm of CASE/IH,I would feel compelled to boldly state:
"I wont rest until all 300/350U parts are re-issued...." LOL

But thankfully for CNH,and their corporate wallet-watchers I have no connection to their daily operations whatsoever. They can rest easy on that score.

Paul, I now have 6 Farmall tractors and one 460U -- haven't had much trouble with CIH getting parts for all of them -- not all parts but most. You cannot expect any manufacturer to produce all parts for all 50-70 year old tractors, or newer for that matter. They are under no obligation to do that and I commend them for doing it. I find it amazing that I can call in a part number and get the part the next day. I do expect the availablilty of parts to decline as the years go by. That is simply part of the game. Unfortunately the 300, 350, and 460 utilities did not share many parts with their respective row crop versions, engines excluded -- a "shortage" of parts for these tractors is to be expected. If you think chassis components for a 300U are hard to come by, try a 460U -- but I'm not complaining as I am more than happy to get what I can. As to the cost -- well, this is one of the world's most expensive hobbies. When I can't afford it, I'll quit.

If I am not mistaken,IH made more 300Us than 300 Farmalls. So,if CASE/CNH bases their parts availability totally on overall population,I would think at least that Ute should be very well represented.

300U production was a very small part of total IH production -- many parts fit only the 300/350U. Production exceeded 5,000,000 20+?? years ago (not going to get into that again), and Case-IH version is still building tractors and parts. It is my belief and experience that the more tractors a part fit the more likely that it is still available -- thus the lack of steering parts for your 300U -- I don't think IH makes many of that type of part for much of anything. In a way your 300U and my 460U are sort of orphans. Unless the aftermarket kicks in, it will get worse.

Most IH tractors survived, provided they got taken care of.

In my area we are lucky to have an IH dealer that has been in business since the early 20`s, and they are noted for sevice, and parts availability. We have 6 IH tractors in service now and several pieces of IH and CIH equipment in use, on the farm that our family has been involved with for 100 years. We are fortunate to be able to have access to such a good orginization. If Case/IH New Holland Global neglects to support this traditon of good service which exists in many rural communities throughout the country, it will be their loss.

Case is a rich man's friend. Sure you can still get some parts. What you will pay for them is a different story. When they can get 7.00 for a small washer that should have cost 50 cents, why would they stop making parts. Its more like legalized robbery if you ask me, but you guys love them so whose going to listen to me..... .

man i really wish i had your money 8>) it takes everything i got just to keep everything running and working properly, let alone have time and money to rebuild everything just cause i think it's time! maybe i went about this the wrong way...i should have taken the allen road! buy everything first, then get the land instead of getting the land and venturing into to new adventures with a last min. scrammble to get the equipment to do the work!

Hi Bud,

I don't have any money. None.

The old planter cost next to nothin' and I charged the parts against my children’s inheritance. :>)

I did have $1302 set aside to buy an old broken down 766D with 34" wheels up in South Dakota, but luckily, the owner decided he wanted to keep it after all.

At that point, my wife took her $1300 back after she started readings the computer screen over my shoulder and found out that I'd raided her purse. :>(

Life is just one long, horrid grind around here, I'm tellin' ya.

Allan

Those press wheel bearings need to/should be replaced every couple years anyway if the planter is being used on any ral acreage. To quit making them is just money out of their pocket.
