While going through some old slides my wife has from her side of the family, I came across some from her uncle's farm near Hillsdale, MI.

There is an old truck and Farmall tractor shown in the picture. Can anyone identify either of these vehicles?

The picture was taken between 1947 and 1954.

Not that it takes away from the pictute, but the negitave is up side down....note the belt pully is on the left side of what I think is a FARMALL M. As for the truck,my guess is a '30s ventage, DIAMOND T..... .thanks for showing the picture....don

Don, yes the negative is upside down. I didn't know that my scanner did this.

For the other picture, see below just a bit where I say another photo is posted. I also posted it again here. Everyone says this is an H, Many thought the one in the color photo was an M. We think they are the same tractor since the pictures were taken on the same farm. It is possible however, that my wife's uncle had both the M and H Farmalls. We think the date was probably 1948 or so.

The truck sure looks like an old 30's International. I've got a 34 model B-4 sitting here at home, I'll go take a closer look at it in the norning.

Definately an H. Look at the battery location.

The front of the tractor could be a M or a H, but if it is the same tractor your wife is pictured on, it is a H. The truck may be a International C series truck, maby a C-15, with some sort of grill guard bars added to the radiator.

Harold, I"m thinking the same. I don"t think the tractor in the color photo is the same tractor in the black and white photo. The one in the colored photo appears to be an M by the height of the grill, whereas the B$W photo is definitely an H. I also think the truck is a mid 30"s (pre 1937) model International, but won"t swear to it.

Definatly an "h" an M's grill would be a bit taller, and in the 2nd pic the steering shaft is too angleg to be an M

I agree about the slide being reversed. Turn it over and the truck and tractor will be flipped horizontally, and the belt will appear to come from the right side of the tractor.

another photo of the Farmall, other was backwards in reply to George in NW Mich, 04-24-2005 13:14:16

Here is another photo of the Farmall, that is my wife sitting on it.

I believe the other picture was printed backwards. These were scanned from a slide and from a B&W negative, and I did not realize that it reversed them after scanning. I noticed of course, when the word Farmall on the negative was backwards.

What years were M series made? How much horsepower, cylinders etc. Sorry I don't know this stuff, but I am a Ferguson fan.

George, Judging from the position and size of the battery box I would assume it to be an H, as the M battery box was located further rearward, next to the steering post. Having "McCormick Deering" above "FARMALL" indicates it to be 1945 or earlier. Later model H"s also had the starter button mounted on the upper left side of the steering post, whereas this one does not show that. The truck may be a mid 30"s model International, but thats out of my baliwick, so I"ll let others surmise its identity.

Presence of "Deering" makes it '49 or earlier.

Jim, Thats true, but starter issue (not on left side of steering post, but in all probability in lower center of post) makes it 1945 or earlier. 1946 and newer had hand operated starter not apparent on this tractor.

The M was made from '39 til '53, replaced by Super M.
4 cylinders, 38 to 45 hp, depending on year, engine mods, and who you ask.

The fender on the truck looks like Graham Brothers. The headlight position looks similar as well. At that time, Graham Bros used some Dodge sheetmetal and running gear. The truck company was bought out by Dodge in the late twenties and that gave Chrysler a truck division. Graham Bros got started in the automotive business by building engines. I think they had a large contract with Ford.

I was told that Graham Bros Truck was the largest selling truck for a while in the Twenties. It was far superior to anything that Ford offered in the model "T" derived haulers.

I had a 28 Chevy 1 ton several years ago. It looked just like the truck in the photo with the exception of the front bumper. It had a blue Chevy bow-tie on the radiator shell. ken
