Ill basicly give you a run down on getting all you can get with what you got from your Super C. I hope it works out for you,,,, Youll have to dive right into looking for certain engine characterisitcs to reconize to know if something has improved to increase HP,, especially, if you dont have a dyno, or access. Simple enough right?? It can be a pain in the you know what to try and set up an engine, to do work, that it was never intended on performing. For special tools, invest in a compression guage, youll soon learn, that it can be your best freind in tuning in an engine for the best hp. Any adjustment you can make, that for a fact,, will alter compression pressure, is what you first should focus on. Adjustments like valve lash, retorquing the head, manifold bolt torque all helps increase they way it runs,, On most engines, with stock cam grinds in them, I adjust the valve lash on each rocker arm, 1 cyl at a time, till I get the highest pressure reading on the guage. Keep a good charged battery in it, cause youll be making quite a few pressure tests to know if your adjustment, has made a noticable difference, any increase in cyl pressure is more HP, even if its 5 psi,, its still maybe 1 or 2 more hp that cost you nothing! Once youve got the cyl pressure up to snuff, you then should focus on getting that distributor, Sorry Mag man,, but the mag has got to go!! Your losing throttle responce, cause there is no advance to help engine accleration. In other words, the mag can affect torque in the engine, cause thats all it does,, spark the plugs,, you need an ignition system more rpm sensitive. H distributors have alot of degrees of timing advance, and really is the universal distributor of choice in all the letter series Farmalls, that I choose to run. Under the points plate in the distributor,, there is a mechanical advance system. This can unlock torque, and throttle responce by changing 2 little springs.. Napa sells a chevy recurve kit, that has lite weight spring sets in them, 3 springs, use the middle spring in the kit instead of the stock OEM H distributor. Those old springs are so stiff, it takes 3000 rpm to to even make em move enough to help out responce. Next, move on to the governor, really, your looking to assure that is not shot, in good shape, yes, a heavier spring tension will help tremendously. this will affect HP, and torque at the same time,,, its the responce time,, from when you pull on the throttle, the governor responds, and opens the carburator. Anytime, you can speed up responce time, youll find better performance in your Farmall. I dont have governor springs for the Super C, but try to match one up at the hardware,, the wire diameter needs to be bigger, bout the same length,, little shorter spring than what stock is. Once youve increased the responce time n the areas mentioned before,, your ready to move on to the carburator. These adjustments, I mentioned,, will change the way the engine runs, and carb work will be nessissary to accomidate the updates. Simply a jet size increase is needed. Locate the main jet, and while your at the hardware store,, spring shopping,,, (LMAO) find the drill bit isle, and then match up the drill bit size, that fits your main jet,, buy the two next sizes larger bit than what your current jet is,, dont go drilling real deep intot he carb base, damage will occur if you accidently drill through the carb bowl housing. Once you have completed the steps above,, your SC will be alot stronger,, 3-7 more hp,, for a few bucks!! Andyouve learned a little about your tractors engine. Hope this helps,,, ChadS

Well, he really doesnt need the petronix set up, so, I agree not to use that. Now, dont take that personal,,, My opinion of mags are that if someone builds a mag to perform like a distributor, then that would be the hottest ticket in antique pulling. Seriously!! Id have one if I knew they would do me good. Im not bashing anyone,, please dont let that expression go on,,, its from my experience,, Ive never tried to hop up a mag, so,, you may know something I dont. and that is a learning experience! Chad

What I would like to see is a newly rebuilt mag on the dino then the same tractor with a good distributor. Now you could use one of your 100 + HP tractors. But I would also like to see a stock H or maybe that SM of yours the same way. I know dowm deep that a mag fires a plug with three times the spark that a distributor does . Maybe that does not matter. But it seems to me that if you have a souped up tractor thats stroked and putting out 90+ HP your taking off with the sled like a drag race and may need that good advance. But lets face it I can build a mag with all types of lag angles and put in a stock H or M or even C when you take off a half throttel and then before you get to the 75 foot marker you got it pulled back farther than IH ever made it to go. LOL It does not seem to me that that advance is going to work the greatest. And also for lugging I am not quite sure about the dist. NOW maybe if you start to spin and drop the throttle and when she catches traction and you give it to her now I will admit that a good advance would work out there.I have been pulling things on the small farm here for close to 30 years now with the H and Mag and now I have the SM with the dist It just does not seem to measure up. I did put the napa springs in to her also But They did not seem to be long enough and I figured that the might strech out where they hook and unhook becuase they are so tight. When I finish this H that I am working on for a Farm stock class I will probly put a rebuilt mag on and pull her to see how she goes and if not I have no problem switching her over to a distributor. Thats when I get er done there may not be tractor pulls that far in the future . lol JON
