I lost the odd gears on my 5088 speed trans. When shifted to a odd gear the sentry light comes on and the tractor won't move. From reading manuals it sounds like it could be a bad pressure transducer. Any advice or other possible causes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dave

A very quick way to tell if it's a pressure switch or a tranny problem is swap the 2 pressure switches around. If the problem follows the switch change it out, if not your tranny probably needs updated.

We had a similar problem on our 5288, it started to slip in the odd gears with a heavy load. A whole clutch pack was bad, lost the splines on the disks. This was a common problem on the 50 series and most were updated but ours was not, and it sounds like yours wasn't done either. The update is costly, and for your sake I hope it is just a transducer.

I asked for an estimate/guesstimate from a repair shop. A few years ago, the cost of repair was approximately $7,000 Canadian, for the 5088. Without taking the time to price everything out, the 5488 being larger, the possible need for shafts, gears, clutch pack,it could cost $9,000 canadian. Just their guesstimate. I"ll have to park the tractor in the tree row, until the grain prices improve.

I found splines from the clutch pack in the oil when the plug was removed. Tractor won"t move. New transducer installed and switched around with the 2nd transducer. No help. How much did it cost to update the clutch pack? IH 5488

Wilson is right. If a new pressure switch doesn't do it, you are in for the big one. That is why 50 series tractors go cheap. For example, a 5488 MFWD near here with 6500 hours recently went for $12,000 Canadian dollars at a farm auction. Don't mean to rain on your parade, just being honest.
