444 loader control valve question

Hi,
A buddy of mine has an old 444 IH gas (unknown year) with power steering. He wants to add a loader so I gave him one from my Massey 135 that I had. The control valve was smoked (water in it), so we replaced it with a joy stick control valve. Problem is the control valve didn't say whether it was open center or closed center. Isn't the IH hydraulics a closed center system?, Kind of like the John Deere? I thought if we put the wrong kind of valve on it, it will over heat the hydraulic fluid, and may cause a pump failure or seals or all of the above. I don't know how to test the valve to see what kind it is. Maybe a hydraulic shop could tell me so I won't guess.

any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

Hi Robert, the usual way to plump the loader control valve was to intercept the high pressure line (small pipe) going to the 3pt hydraulic reservoir under the seat. CIH used to sell a kit for this it consisted of a replacement high pressure line that was in two pieces. A long section from the hydraulic pump back to the brake pedal area and it had a hydraulic hose fitting on the end at the brake pedal. This would connect to the inlet side of the loader control valve. Then the outlet of the loader control valve would go to the hose connection on the short section of the high pressure line that would go into the reservior under the seat.
The dump line of the loader control valve would go to a T screwed into the hydraulic filler plug behind the seat.

Hope this helps
