I have never owned a red tractor before, but a man I work with has one for sale. He said it is a 500 series, I do know it has a six cylinder diesel i it. It is getting oil in the water, it shows up in the radiator but no water in the oil pan. What are the possibilities. He still runs this tractor from time to time and he says it runs fine. As I said I have never owned a red tractor, even my Massey is yellow. Thanks for the help in advance.

I agree with Raffo that if you are getting oil in the water but not water in the oil, the oil cooler is the likely culprit. Both oil and water are in it, the oil is under higher pressure (about 35-40 psi) than the water (about 7 psi or so) so if a small opening develops internally, the oil will be pushed into the coolant before coolant shows in the oil.

I had a similar prob w/460 deisel, pretty much the same engine ,I think. The oil cooler was screwed, and letting oil in water, and water in oil! I bypassed the whole oil cooler. Check it first for bloating on sides from freezing.

Sure you can. Either way. As it is, with regard to the original post, do yourself a big favor and forget about that tractor unless he is giving it away, and only then if you are seeking a lot of possible frustration.
