Bought a 560 Diesel

Consignment auction this Saturday, 560 Diesel, 95% rear 15.5x38 rubber, narrow front, fast hitch, TA seems good, average paint, runs pretty strong and all around seems to be a pretty tight tractor. Looks like it needs a head gasket, leaks a little compression between the head and the block. Also might have some glow plug issues. You guys better tell me what it"s worth so I can quit losing sleep thinking I paid too much. Never been around too many D-282"s, what"s the typical reason for head gasket leakage? Sure I"ll have a few questions once I tear into it. Anyone know a quick way to test glow plugs, sure it can be done with an ohm meter, but I"ve never been able to find a resistance value for them. Anyone know what it weighs with no fluid in the tires? Trying to decide if it"s a good idea to haul it 60 miles with a tandem axle car trailer with a 7000-pound max GVW. Probably not going to try that.

It might be a broken head bolt or a surface irregularity causing the head gasket issue. I had a gasket go out on mine, and it was a broken bolt on the exhaust manifold side of the head.

If you pull the head, take a look at the valve face height. If those valves aren�t close to even with the surface of the head it might cause hard starting. If so, it�s time to take it to the machine shop and get the seats replaced and get that compression back up to spec.

I paid $2800 for mine in northwest Iowa. They are a pretty good trailer load! I bought a used trailer at the same time and hauled it back with my Chevy 3/4 ton. I have never had any problems with the head. I had the injector pump rebuilt is about it. Sure run nice on the bailer. This is an older picture. I now have a wide front on it.

I saw a 560 diesel sell for $2,500 about a month ago but it didn't look as good as your's. Mine weighs 7,800 with the heavy IH wide front and fluid in the 15-5 X 38 tires. I think you'll enjoy the tractor. I paid $2,750 for mine two years ago and it didn't look quite as nice as your's but it really runs well.

Hey, did you get that at the Racine auction Saturday? I was there briefly with my Dad real early on. I wanted to get one of the Barge Boxes but I had to leave unexpectedly...bummed me out.

Yep Randy, that's the one. Pretty interesting auction, lots of deals, but you have to question the quality of some of the stuff that goes through that lot. If those guys could shake their reputation of being a "grove cleaning service", they could have a heck of a nice business.

I know what you mean by golly...I bought my first tractor there 4 years ago before they had a "satisfaction type warranty", and I"ve got more money in it than it"s worth. That"s ok I guess. I also bought an Oliver model 82 sickle mower at the last auction a couple of weeks ago, and the neglect is always found AFTER you get to take it apart...sure cant do that on their lot.

Well first off ya need a bigger trailer and as far as the head seepage well impropper togure , warpped head warped block or just a bad gasket .The way i check the glow plug is to try and get them out and put juice to them and see if they glow because if they are bad ya got to get them out anyhow . Also i have found that valve adjustment has a lot to do with blow by and could lead to your problem with the head gskt and that is one thing that everyone overlooks. I bought one that the skeeters would not come around because of blow by and i figured that i got screwed because i put a bid in on it witha auctioneer and did not go to the sale and i ended up with three of the five that i let bids on . It was a mess with oil leaks everywhere and after three hours with the hot water pressure washer and some real strong soap i got it cleaned up and started fixen the oil leaks and the other small stuff that was wrong and i had to replace the valve cover gskt and started looking at the rockers and you could have throwen a cat between them and the valve adjusted the valves and the blow by was gone and it turned out to be a good old tractor.

the tractor will weigh on an average of 6300 lbs. and to test the glow plugs leave them in the tractor and unhook one of the spaded wires at a time and using a test lite hook the clamp end of your test lite to the positave battery termanal and touch the probe end to the spade on the glow plug if the lite lites the glow pulg is good , do this above method for all six glow plugs.never use a battery charger with a boster or jumper cables and the glow plug button held down at the same time this will cook all six glow plugs. and as far as the price $1500 up good with your purchase

K. B. heres how I check on the trucks, and compact &lawn tractors, take a test light and hook one end to the positive batt. post and touch the other end to the plug if the light works then the plug is good if not it's bad. LOL David
