I have the wheels off and sanded on my 49M, they were silver before. Is this the right color and does it have a # I can order it by? Also am looking at some used tires 75% no checking or cracking in size 11x38 what should they be worth?

I hope this reply isn't too late, but I use Rust-oleum Hammered metal spray paint. It is pretty tough stuff, and looks like a galvanized rim when you are done.I probably get more compliments on my rims than I do on the rest of my paint jobs.John.

Actually, the rims were never painted from the factory. They were galvanized. I have a pair of mid-50's front rims with 95% of the galvanizing still intact, and they do look silver. They are definitely not painted. So, to be absolutely correct, I guess someone would have to have the rims re-galvanized to be 'correct'. I just paint mine silver.

Interesting Info. I picked up some "galvanize" paint last winter for a different project but sounds like may be answer when I redo my H wheels. Thanks JohnG.

I don't know if the galvanize spray will work. It usually has a grey color. I think the rims were originally hot dipped, or something similar. Someone earlier said they would not tolerate the heat from the hot-dip process, but who really knows now?

I have never seen a Farmall M with it's wheels painted siver or aluminum.

All the Farmall M's have their wheels painted red.

The rims are useually painted aluminum by most of the guys. ;o]

It used to be that a guy just went down to the local hardware store and picked up a quart of rust-oleum aluminum paint and a good soft brush, wire brushed the rims and painted. The results were always very good. For some strange reason now we think the tractor has to end up looking about 1,000% better than it did when it was brand new, and I guess that's OK. It's your tractor, do it as you want. I still paint my rims with a brush and aluminum paint.

From all the pictures of restored Farmall M's that I've seen have silver wheels. Dupont, Martin-Senour and PPG have color charts and may have the silver color number for your Farmall.
I would use acrylic enamel with hardener and you need to use a supplied air system when spraying.
You do not want to inhale this.

I've even used paint that was mismatched when they
were mixing the paint at the store. Silver is silver and I doubt if anyone could tell the difference. A lot cheaper too in price.

Go to BestFarmBuys.com to see if any tires are
for sale. Hal
