Well, I'm still just shopping around trying to decide if I should upgrade from my M that works fine and does what I need it to. Don't know why I keep looking but I guess I'm hoping to catch a deal.

Local guy is selling a 460 Diesel, wide front end, loader (no markings on it - not sure what brand - kind of rough looking with lots of welding on the bucket), 7' rotary mower (looks pretty rough), 7' straight blade (nice - heavy duty) and a 14' mcormick disc (nice - looks good) for $5,500. Seems a bit high to me and I really don't need the mower or blade because I already have a mower and blade and don't really know what I would need a 14' disc for. A loader would be nice and the live hydraulics and live pto on the 460 would be nice also. TA is out.

I'm intrigued by the diesel (he said it started really good and only have to use the glow plugs if it hasn't been started in a while) but it also scares me a little.

Is that price in the ballpark for that tractor and accessories or not? I'm just curious more than anything.

If I don't need the disc how much should I be able to sell it for?

Thanks, Nathan

He's telling you a fib, a 460 Diesel will not start without glow plugs, they are not designed for that. It takes at least 1/2 minute at 90 degrees, and up to 2 minutes in the winter, and then you hold the button til the engine smooths out and the smoke clears some...BTDT, got the tee shirt!

I agree, a 460 is hard to start even with the glow plugs. Last fall I saw a clean, straight 460 with widefront and loader sell at auction for $2800. I doubt that the disc is worth much, it sounds pretty old, and farmers looking for an older disc probably want 8'-10'. It will also be a real hard pull for a 460.

Nathan,

You know don't you, that the 460 is the newer version of the H and not the M?

If the T/A is out of it, I'd walk right on by at that price.

Just my view,

Allan

Allen,
The 460 might be "considered" the replacement for the H, however a good one will run the pants off of a M and its heavier too.

Not necessarily, an M that is running good, especially if it has the overbore kit, will surprise lots of people. The M will keep right up with a 460 any day.

Rusty,
I was comparing to a stock M, havent seen it compare with a overbore or a Super. But I bet a super would keep up well, overall I would put the 460 in the M class.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like that good of a deal. I was just making sure the 14' disc wasn't worth $3k and that would mean the tractor would be a steal! ;-)

Whether it is a new H or M it puts out more horsepower, is heavier than either and most importantly has live hydraulics and independent pto which are the 2 things I wish that I had on my M. I think I can live without a loader, I think I would use it about as often as it would get in the way.

Thanks for the quick reply.

there"s a not too bad looking 656 hydro with a quiktach WL42 loader for sale about that same price here. runs good, hydro is tight and has a fast hitch. the unit itself is alittle rough looking but runs sweet.
