Reservoir Lid Utes

For those who ever wondered what the underside of the reservior top looks like on a 300/330/350U,thanks to an EBAY auction,here's an image.My question though is,where is the screen supposed to be? Is it on the end of the round area that points down toward the fluid supply?

Mine on the 350 was taken out when I got it, They put on an external filter....not factory, but works very well.

It's an outstandingly poor design by IH. My screen was collapsed also, like Harold's,and that's probably the typical case. The "T-screen" hangs down two or three inches below the gasket surface, and is thus prone to mechanical damage when you're taking it apart.

Sounds as though you're getting ready to do some heavy hydraulic work, including going in after this rascal. It so, make sure you lift the cover straight up, and have a plan/place to set it down, or you'll probably end up replacing the screen whether it really needs it or not - was about $70 from CaseIH a couple of years back. It's also very helpful to pull all the valves off the side to reduce the weight and put the center of gravity in the middle when you're pulling the cover; thing's awfully heavy and awkward in any case. It's a good job to get some good help with.

I have a cherry picker so if it needs to come off,I think I can let it dangle for a while.Wish I had a borescope to put down the fill hole and get a look see of the pickup.....but that view probably isnt even visible from the fill hole.

The screen is T-shaped, with a short stem. It screws into the threaded hole in the top center of the photo. I had mine off a couple years ago, I don't think it had been off since it was built. There was a half inch of sludge in the bottom of the reservoir, and the screen was plugged so tight it had collapsed from the suction of the pump.

I also should have mentioned that I think one of the reasons so much sludge builds up is that the drain is half an inch above the bottom of the reservoir, so you can never get all the oil out when you drain it.

That's why I suggested draining it tru the pump return lines. Gets a bit more oil out.
