What's the most common tire size on a farmall 560. Mine has 15.5 38 and it looks like it is running up hill all the time. Does anybody know what the purpose is of 15.5 tires being low profile.

The reason the 15.5's were designed with such a low profile was so that they would match up with the old 12-38's on so many M's of the day. The 15.5-38 hah the same rolling radius as the 13.6-38 etc so they'd work for running duals (15.5) along side your old 12's. Am I the only old coot old enough to be around back then?

I'm heartened to see that someone else has a problem with the "running uphill" look of the 460/560. Few tractors look better than these two do all painted up, but they look like they're squattin' and taking a dump with the standard rubber on them. I just thinks it makes them look weak.

If you're gonna pop big $$ for new 16.9s, I certainly recommend getting the 15" rims for them if you can swing the dough. These will allow the new tires to lay down the proper footprint, and will let the 16.9s look fat and meaty.

I'm finally getting around to replacing the old 13.6 x 38s on our 460. I'm putting on new 13.6 Firestone 23 degree. Ideally, I would have liked to put a bigger cross section rubber (14.6?) tire on it, but can't justify the expense. Besides, 13.6s are what came on the 460 new.

It looks like I'm gonna have to replace a rim anyway. I discovered one rim is 11" and the other 12". No wonder that one tire didn't look right when mounted.

Ronald: My 560 came new with 15.5x38. I changed it to 16.9x38 at first tire replacment. Believe me it really makes a tractor out of a 560. You just wouldn't believe the difference in traction. I also didn't replace the chloride when I put the 16.9s on. It was still better on traction in the field. Initially I went to the 16.9 to give better clearence windrowing with haybine. I did the same with my 656 and with it I pulled 5x16 semi mount plow with no chloride or wheel weights.

Before you just put 16.9 x 38 tires on you should consider changing to a 15" rim which is what the 16.9 38 tire was designed for. It should help you alot.

My dad's 560 had 15.5 tires and he hated them from the day after he bought 'em. I got to fixing the old girl up last fall and one rim was rusted out. Not knowing if it'd be worth buying new rims and tires at that point, I just took off both rear wheels and tires and put some 9 bolt dual hubs on the axles and then bolted on some 18.4 x 34 duals dad had in the old barn.

Man did that tractor immediately look better even before I rebuilt the carb and got it running good. Now that she's a runner again, the next step is to get some good rims and some 16.9 rubber.
