can any one give me some history on the 806 and 856 with front wheel drive, when they were made and how many were made ect. any help would be greatly appreciated.

They were created on the same line as the rest of the 06 and 56 series tractors, just that when they were putting on the front axle, they wheeled the 4 wheel drive axle under it and bolted it down instead of the 2 wheel drive bar axle. If memory serves me correctly, it is an Elwood FWD axle. I have seen a picture where they have an axle sitting on a small jack next to the assembly line to facilitate putting it in a 66 series tractor. I think it was the same with the 56's and 06's. Hope it helps.

I think the 06, 56, 66 series tractors had the American Coleman MFD axles. They did not turn very sharp and were prone to end U joint failure. The Elwoods, a much better engineered axle, were first used on the 86 series tractors.

I beleive our 1066 has a spicer axle, not sure if it was factory it's got a large welded rail with 4 bolts holding the axle housing to it, looks to be the 2 wheel drive bolster though.
