I am working on a Mc Cormick W-30. It runs very well but has no brakes fitted. On the left side of the gearbox is a steel wheel, which must have been part of a brakeing system. Trouble is, I have no idea what it should look like, was it hand or foot operated, etc. If anybody has any drawings, pictures, photos or info that will help me know what to look for or to make it myself, I would realy appreciate it. My e-mail is janf@armscor.co.za

Jan, the W30's that came to Australia had the handbrake internal. By that I mean the wheel that the handbrake band contracted on to was inside the final drive housing. I just thought all W30's were the same but if not I'd like to know what age yours is or if other people have W30's with external handbrake. If yours is internal, renewing the band will be self explanetary after you get in there. Regards, Redfan.

I got the serial no. but cannot relate it to any munufacturing date I have seen so far,but looking at the construction it should be one of the earlier models. What I can tell you is that the brake "wheel" is external on the left side of the gearbox, vey much like that on the W-40. There is a cutout in the footplate above the wheel and threaded holes in the g-box casing where the mechanism had been bolted on.
